Biography

Karen Lorraine Clark

I have been a legal secretary for over 25 years. During those 25 years, I have created procedures to ensure that cases, and clients' information, are handled in a professional and efficient way to ensure that all attorneys, paralegals, secretaries, and office staff working on a case have knowledge of all information provided by all sources. I have integrated law office information. I have set up law offices, organized law offices, created Office Manager's Handbooks, created Employee Office Procedures Handbooks, and I have managed every aspect of a law office. In addition to having over 25 years experience as a legal secretary, I also attended the University of West Los Angeles - School of Law for two years. I understand how law school classes are taught and how law school classes are broken down for midterm and final examinations.

My inspiration for creating this book is the fact that I have worked with many attorneys, young and old, experienced and not so experienced, who did not understand how efficiently to run a law office. I have personally witnessed managing partners' frustration with attorneys, secretaries, paralegals, and office staff who do not have the practical skills needed to work in a law office. In order to help new employees, I have created various methods to assist them to understand and learn the practical skills they need to learn, and to implement on a daily basis, in order to become efficient at working in a law office.
